Atlantic Container Line
Atlantic Container Line is a company of the Grimaldi Group of
Naples, Italy and is headquartered in New Jersey, USA with offices
in Canada and Europe. Since 1967, ACL has been a specialized
carrier of containers, project and oversized cargo, heavy equipment
and vehicles with the world's largest Roll-on
Roll-off/Containerships. ACL offers weekly container and
roll-on/roll-off service between North America and Europe, as well
as North America and West Africa. ACL also offers an oversized
service to the Mediterranean and South America.
ACL's Hazardous Materials Cargo Departments (HCD), complete with
sophisticated information systems, provide customers with the
highest level of information and compliance for the transportation
of hazardous materials. Staff are trained to constantly stay
abreast of international, national, and local regulations affecting
the transportation of hazardous cargo. As such, ACL is prepared to
move almost all types of hazardous materials, including radioactive
and explosive materials.
IMDG Code e-learning
has been used to train staff in the North America and European
offices (including the UK) since 2011. The 49 CFR module
which looks at the additional requirements in 49 CFR when shipping
into/from the USA under the IMDG Code provisions has also been
included in their training program.
Suzanne Ball, Corporate Hazardous Cargo Manager
at the Liverpool office, UK, commented, "We have been using IMDG
Code e-learning for a number of years to train our staff globally,
and have recently purchased courses for Amendment 37-14. We
have a large number of people that are involved in the
transportation of hazardous materials either in a 'hands on' role
or in a support capacity. Exis offers a wide range of courses
that are suitable for different roles within the company from
customer service staff to ship planners. Our policy is to
provide the best training for our staff, and the e-learning
approach allows us to deliver training that is regularly updated in
line with new regulations, is of a consistent high standard and is
easy to administer on a global basis."
IMDG Code
e-learning is a cost-effective online training
tool for all shore side staff involved in the handling and
transport of dangerous goods by sea. It was developed in
collaboration with the International Maritime
Organization, and gives high quality training that complies
with both the general awareness and function specific training
requirements in the IMDG Code.
