China Shipping (UK) Agency

China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) began with the
formation of the China Shipping Group (CSG) in Shanghai in
1997. CSG is a state owned enterprise employing 40,000
staff having interests in bulk shipping, tankers and regional
container services in Asia. Amongst other activities, the
Group is involved in container terminals, air freight, freight
forwarding, telecommunications and various investment
opportunities.
At the beginning of 1999 when the export of manufactured goods
from China began to soar, China Shipping Container Lines started
its first non-regional service to Australia. This was soon
followed by the first sailing to Europe and a first call at
Felixstowe. Later the same year CSCL started a Trans Pacific
service. In its relatively short lifetime, China Shipping's
fleet has grown to 139 container ships with a capacity of 593,000
teu. China Shipping is now operating in over 60 major trades lanes
including the important east-west trades. The company ranks
as one of the ten largest container lines.
In the UK and Ireland, China Shipping (UK) Agency
(based in Felixstowe) has represented CSCL exclusively since the
first sailing in 1999. In that time China Shipping has become
an established and award-winning name having won a reputation in
the UK shipping industry for its efficient and helpful
service.
China Shipping (UK) Agency has been using IMDG Code
e-learning since 2009 for IMDG Code training on both Amendment
34-08 and Amendment 35-10 provisions. They have recently purchased
Amdt 36-12 refresher courses for Amdt 35-10 students, and general
awareness and function specific courses for new students.
Richard Green, QA Manager commented, "We have been using IMDG Code
e-learning to train our staff for several years now, and have been
very pleased with the quality of the training courses, flexibility
of the approach to training and ease of transition in setting up
training from one IMDG Code amendment to the next."
IMDG Code
e-learning is a cost-effective online training tool for all
shore side staff involved in the handling and transport of
dangerous goods by sea. It was developed with the support of the
International Maritime Organization, and gives high quality
training that complies with both the general awareness and function
specific training requirements in the IMDG Code.
